FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated, “Starting in Mexico City, followed by Toronto and Los Angeles, these opening ceremonies will blend music, culture, and football, reflecting the unique identity of each country while showcasing the spirit of unity that this edition represents. It will be a powerful way to kick off a global celebration.”

The 2026 World Cup will officially begin on June 11 with the opening match between Mexico and South Africa at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. FIFA confirmed that 90 minutes before kickoff, Mexico will host an “unprecedented opening ceremony to set the stage for the world’s greatest show.”

Canada will hold its opening ceremony on June 12 in Toronto, followed by the host nation’s match against Portugal. On the same day, the United States will open its portion of the tournament in Los Angeles, with the U.S. team facing Panama in their group-stage opener.

The 2026 World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19 across 16 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For the first time, the tournament will feature 48 teams, increasing the number of matches to 104. This tri-nation format aims to celebrate the diversity and passion of football across North America.
