The recent renewals of Fabricio, Fran Sabina, Ulloa, and most importantly Dani Fernández have been crucial in solidifying the foundation of the project. Quietly and steadily, CD Tenerife’s sporting management has announced contract extensions for key players, ensuring continuity after a successful season that saw the team achieve a coveted promotion. Following Manu Guill’s roadmap, as outlined in his latest statements, there are strong indications that José León Bernal (Madrid) could be the next player to publicly confirm his stay through the club’s channels.
As previously reported by EL DÍA, the deal is expected to be a two-year contract, handing León a leading role in a defense full of uncertainty. Landázuri could be involved in a major transfer, Antal is on loan, and Agüero has failed to impress. The central defensive line might undergo a near-total overhaul. The former Alcorcón player is now among the most experienced members of the squad, though many fans may not know that this is his second promotion – he previously achieved it with Cultural Leonesa.
“The first time was with Cultu, also in a packed stadium. But the Heliodoro atmosphere was incredible. The promotion day was special, unique, because of the passion of the people. This was week after week. I’ve never experienced that before. Having up to 500 fans travel to any ground on the mainland is remarkable. Traveling from the island is always difficult, but it felt like we played at home every match,” he recalls about this dream season.
“This has been my most responsible year. I was one of the players continuing from last season. The relegation to Primera RFEF was a debt we owed to the club and the fans. We had to bring the club back to professional football, and we achieved it in the best possible way,” the center-back says with satisfaction for a job well done.
León has publicly emphasized his desire to stay, sometimes more clearly, other times as if the matter were already settled. He is ready to take on the challenge of playing in the Hypermotion with a Tenerife team on an upward trajectory. “The pressure was immense from the start of the season, but so was the excitement because of the board and the squad we built. There were reasons to be hopeful. Week by week, we saw things going well, which only motivated the fans more. I think one thing led to another,” he says regarding the collective success across all levels of the club.
With two matches left to play – including this Sunday’s home farewell – León assesses the season positively. “We have completed the season in the best possible way, but we need to round it off,” he states. He never doubted the contributions of the players he already knew, but some new arrivals left a mark on him. “Fabricio, for example, surprised us all,” he reveals. Not just with his work, but with a promise kept on promotion day. “I saw him finishing that run on the goal line, but I was told and then watched the video to confirm he ran the entire field. It was something he had inside him, and it’s all respectable. It shows how important this promotion was for Fabri. It was beautiful to see his joy, shared by everyone,” he concludes, ready to experience more such moments.
