Infectious disease specialist Evgenia Daieva has explained how people can contract hantavirus, commonly known as “mouse fever.” She stated that the virus is not transmitted through bites, but via airborne dust particles.
“It is very difficult to contract hantavirus. It is a natural focal disease, meaning it is spread through carriers. It does not transmit from person to person. Therefore, infection can only occur under specific circumstances. For example, if excrement from infected animals contaminates drinking water or a body of water where locals swim,” the expert said.

Mortality rates up to 60%, no vaccine available: Could hantavirus become the next COVID-19?
The disease may manifest anywhere from 4 days to 7 weeks after exposure. On average, the incubation period lasts 2–3 weeks.
